VALLÉE DE LA LOIRE (IV) – Chenonceau

Our Loire Valley adventure continued as we made our way to the incredibly majestic Château de Chenonceau.  This one was probably one of my favorites.  It felt like a real castle with all the turrets, gardens and even the incredible Alice in Wonderland like labyrinth.  The fact that it sits on a river renders it even more breathtaking.  The grounds were way too big to discover in the few hours we were there.  They stretch before you for miles on end only tempting your imagination to step back in time.  I adored the Gardens of Catherine de Medicis and Diane Poitiers whose colors provided a beautiful contrast against those of the white and grey castle.  I think I enjoyed the exteriors of all the châteaux far more than the interiors which felt very repetitive and rather expected.  The exception was the next château that belonged to one of the most interesting men the world has ever seen.

Stay tuned for part V of the Loire Valley series…

If planning a trip to the Vallée de la Loire, you can read about my visits to Chambord (I), Blois (II) and Cheverny (III) for more background.

  1. Lovely post that brought back a lot of happy memories. We did a Loire Valley tour six years ago but in early summer. Chenonceau is my favorite because the gardens were simply spectacular at that time of the year. ;-)

    1. Thanks Malou! I’m happy to know this post brought back good memories for you! : ) The gardens are indeed just stunning! It’s a very beautiful part of the country

  2. I’ve enjoyed taking a trip down memory lane with all of your pictures from La Loire, but Chenonceau has always been my favourite of the chateaux. Lovely photos – will need to get back over there soon, especially as we’ve finally got some proper weather!
