Now seriously, who hasn’t owned at least one pair of converse shoes in his lifetime? They are the epitome of comfort, the quality standard for sneakers and a statement in themselves thanks to the retro, trendy, (now geek-chic) design of they’re classical high-tops, the Chuck Taylor All-Star’s. The brand released a more feminine line in 2012 called the “Chuck Taylor All Star Dainty” that is softer around the sides, more rounded and with a thinner sole. I fell in love with them the second I saw them and naturally I had to have them in pink! And so my pink feminine Converse are now worn around the edges, slightly frayed in parts and a little discolored around the rim but they are rocking even more attitude than when I first bought them. I love them for having that vintage “get better with age” quality so I was super excited when I first saw this tongue-in-cheek witty campaign around the metros of Paris. And it’s en Anglais en plus!
Given I fell victim to their cool campaign, I just had to check out their exhibit so we visited their concept store in the 11eme last weekend, just before their exhibition closed. I’m sad to report that the exhibit/store did not meet the exceedingly high standards set by the their ads. What we saw was super cool but there was too little to see and that was essentially the problem. Their creative twist on a sneaker chandelier, Converse ‘tune & repair’ bar and doodle-covered massive white board were overshadowed by the smallness of the space which we toured in less than 7 minutes. Bless them for trying! My loyalty for this all-American sneaker has not waned and I’m contemplating making a new acquisition…red or grey? What say you? Help me decide!
Do you own a pair of Converse? Which one?
