A much over due post! I may have previously mentioned that I was lucky to visit the luxurious seaside town of Biarritz while in Pau for my French immersion. This tiny little town by the Atlantic sea has a huge personality, lots of charm and oozes luxury. The wealth is very apparent in the people walking the streets and in the concentration of boutiques and designer brands present in this summer retreat. When my host family suggested making a day trip I was excited but hesitant. It was a cold, rainy, grey Saturday and I thought what could possibly be exciting about a seaside resort in the dead of winter. We took the chance and thank goodness for that! I fell in love with this little place! The pensive winter sky cast against the crashing waves of the Atlantic was a humbling reminder of the power of nature. The tide was so high it practically reached the pavement. I watched the water for a while, the ebbing and flowing, the waves rising to incredible heights and my mind drifted to the unfortunate tsunami’s and flooding’s that have broken so many people and shattered so many homes. The ocean is so powerful. We wandered around the town, enjoyed some local delicacies including the uber-creamy Gateau Basque and sipped some warm tea as drops of water started to fall from the sky. My favorite photo is that of the carrousel set against the ocean, the juxtaposition of sheer innocence against such a force is so humbling.
