Now you see them, now you dont…that’s how I felt on that cold morning in Jurançon, as I innocently walked through my host family’s neighborhood admiring the views and taking photos. To my naked eye, before me was a peaceful landscape of snow-capped mountains melting into an angry grey sky but as I looked through the viewfinder of my Nikon D90, I was stunned by this incredible view of thousands of birds dotting the sky as they moved in a correographed symphony that was speed and grace and harmony, swooping their way down at rapid speed only to turn back again soaring higher and making a grander descent like a free-reign rollercoaster. I stood watching them transfixed as I wished I could transform into one of them for just a few moments of that exhilarating rush.
This remarkable view always humbles me but I have never seen so many birds at once. It is a breathtaking sight. We are all migrating somewhere. In our minds, in our hearts, the desire for change always holds promise and the dream of something new and exciting that will renew us from within. The winds of change are in motion as 2013 kicks into full gear and we already wave goodbye to the month of January that has snuck away under our noses like a master thief.
